About the project
We modified Cossacks 3 itself. The C3 Arena mod adds what players had been missing for years: one-click ranked 1v1 and 2v2, its own Elo rating, anti-cheat and a redesigned interface. The game is linked to cossacks.nurs.dev: the rating, tournaments and news show up both on the site and in the game.

Challenge
Cossacks 3 online has no rating: players hunt for opponents through password rooms by hand, while cheaters and network exploits spoil the game.
- Hook into someone else's game with no source code, only through its scripts
- Close the cheat console and a network exploit in the original game
- The game freezes for the duration of every server request
- Match only players running the same, untampered build
Solution
We built the mod on top of the game's own Quick Play: a lobby button finds an opponent, creates the room and starts the game, and after the match the result goes to our server and updates Elo.
- 1v1 and 2v2 buttons in the lobby: search, room and start with no passwords, a “match found” popup with sound
- 1v1 and 2v2 ratings with ranks from Recruit to Hetman, profile and match history in game and on the site
- The console is off in ranked, the exploit is patched, builds are checksum-verified and opponents' nicks are hidden
- Frequently read data is served as ready-made files, so menus open instantly with no slow requests
